Change is "Dance of Life"

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Change is dance of life

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” - Alan Watts

Inspired by Alan Watts quote, I see change as the “dance of life,” the way life dances with us. The only constant in life is “change.” Change is life’s continuous invitation for us to dance with it. When we join the dance, we learn the language of life and flow with the rhythm. In a dance, you can be the leader or the follower. To be a better dancer, some people learn both roles and dance accordingly. The key is to figure out the language and the cues of dance while listening to the beat of the music.

It is your choice to be the follower of change when needed. And when the time comes, you can be the leader of change. In both cases, the key is that you are adapting yourself to the dance in such a way that the music captivates you and you become one with the dance. You become the change.

“Change is the dance of life. It is your choice to be the leader or the follower of change. Join the dance and flow with the rhythm.” -Berna Merih

Let’s be honest. Every breath we take and each moment we live, changes us. Buddha once said, “Every breath I take is a new me.” Change is not the problem here! It is our reaction to change is all that matters. The only constant about change is that it triggers a lot of different emotions.

Going through change might feel like a similar experience with suffering from #grief over a loved one, some experts say. There is always an attachment to the old that when human beings encounter change, “letting go” seems almost impossible. It is the human tendency to feel “attached” to certain things in life that many people think they cannot change. Also, the assumptions and judgments about change makes us think that nobody can change including us.

Emotional intelligence offers us to understand and regulate our feelings, not ignore them. When we recognize, we can adapt. It is ok to feel #fear or #anxiety if there is high uncertainty about change; #anger when you resist change; or #curiosity and #enthusiasm when there is a reason for change that motivates you.

Based on the feelings you embody about change; you can adapt your steps and figures to follow or lead the choreography of your life. Just be and flow! 💃 🕺
